By San Diego, CA.- “Nuestros agentes salvan vidas”, declaró el agente jefe de la Patrulla Fronteriza del sector de San Diego, Aaron Heitke.
Lo anterior, tras revelar que ha sido constante el número de migrantes que han sido rescatados en la zona montañosa de Otay, luego que traficantes de personas los abandonan sin importar el riesgo que eso conlleva.
Desde octubre de 2019 y a la fecha, los agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza en el sector de San Diego han rescatado y brindado asistencia a más de 76 personas, entre ellos hombres y mujeres.
“Sí nuestros agentes no hubieran estado patrullando en estas áreas aisladas, estos hombres podrían haber sucumbido:, dijo Heitke.
Y es que agregó: “Los contrabandistas insensibles llevan constantemente a los migrantes al peligro y nuestros agentes los llevan a un lugar seguro”.
Migrantes se enfrentan a hipotermia al cruzar por zona montañosa
Tan solo esta semana, la Patrulla Fronteriza del Sector San Diego informó del rescate de dos hombres el lunes por la mañana que se encontraban en grave peligro en la montaña Otay.
El primer incidente ocurrió el 10 de noviembre, aproximadamente a las 3:15 de a mañana, cuando los agentes que patrullaban la montaña Otay se encontraron con un hombre que no podía caminar y parecía sufrir hipotermia.
El hombre, de nacionalidad mexicana, informó a los agentes que había ingresado ilegalmente a Estados Unidos a través de la zona montañosa.
Como no esperaba el clima frío y duro, no tenía ropa adecuada y se enfermó. El hombre no pudo caminar por su propia voluntad. Al evaluar rápidamente la situación, los agentes prestaron primeros auxilios y pidieron ayuda.
Debido al terreno empinado y remoto, los agentes no pudieron llevar al hombre de 43 años a un lugar seguro y solicitaron apoyo aéreo. El Departamento de Bomberos de San Diego envió un helicóptero y trasladó de manera segura al hombre al aeropuerto Brown Field, donde los servicios médicos de emergencia estaban esperando.
Luego, el hombre fue trasladado a un hospital cercano para recibir tratamiento.
El segundo incidente ocurrió aproximadamente a las 11:30 a.m. cuando los agentes respondieron a una llamada de asistencia.
Los agentes asignados a la Rama de Operaciones Extranjeras de la COSUDE pudieron contactar al individuo angustiado y reducir el área de búsqueda. Los agentes de Búsqueda, Trauma y Rescate de la Patrulla Fronteriza (BORSTAR por sus siglas en inglés) desplegaron y encontraron a los dos hombres que habían ingresado ilegalmente a los Estados Unidos, través del Área Silvestre de la Montaña en Otay.
Uno de los hombres estaba vomitando y dijo que estaba muy deshidratado. Los agentes de BORSTAR evaluaron al ciudadano mexicano de 52 años y determinaron que necesitaba ayuda médica inmediata.
Posteriormente los agentes solicitaron apoyo aéreo para sacar al hombre. El Departamento del Sheriff de San Diego respondió y transportó al hombre a la estación CAL FIRE en Dulzura en helicóptero, donde fueron recibidos por los servicios médicos de emergencia. Luego, el hombre fue trasladado a un hospital cercano para recibir tratamiento por hipotermia.

USBP Agents and Partners Save Two Men From Otay Mountain in Separate Rescues
San Diego, CA.- San Diego Sector (SDC) Border Patrol agents rescued two men Monday morning who were in severe distress on Otay Mountain.
The first incident occurred on Nov. 10, at approximately 3:15 a.m. when agents patrolling Otay Mountain came across a man who was unable to walk and appeared to be suffering from hypothermia. The man, a Mexican national, advised agents he had entered the U.S. illegally through the mountainous area. Not expecting the cold, harsh weather, he lacked adequate clothing and became ill. The man was unable to walk on his own volition. Quickly assessing the situation, agents rendered first aid and called for assistance.
Due to the steep, remote terrain, the agents could not carry the 43-year-old man to safety and requested air support. San Diego Fire Rescue Dept. sent a helicopter and safely airlifted the man to Brown Field Airport, where emergency medical services were standing by. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The second incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. when agents responded to a call for assistance. Agents assigned to the SDC Foreign Operations Branch were able to contact the distressed individual and narrow the search area. Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents deployed and encountered the two men who had entered the U.S. illegally through the Otay Mountain Wilderness Area.
One of the men was vomiting and stated he was severely dehydrated. BORSTAR agents assessed the 52 year old Mexican national, and determined he needed immediate medical aide. Agents requested air support to extract the man from the mountain. San Diego Sheriff’s Department responded and airlifted the man to the CAL FIRE Station in Dulzura via helicopter, where they were met by emergency medical services. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment for hypothermia.
“Our agents save lives,” stated Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke. “Had our agents not been on patrol in these isolated areas, these men may have succumbed to the elements. Callous smugglers consistently lead migrants into danger and our agents deliver them to safety.”
Since October 2019, Border Patrol Agents in San Diego Sector have rescued and provided aide to more than 76 people.
